Royal Enfield Himalayan recalled over clutch & noise issues

Royal Enfield launched their long-distance adventure tourer, the RE Himalayan, in the Indian market in March 2016. But over the past three months, Himalayan owners across the country have been complaining about experiencing issues with the clutch mechanism and the noisy nature of the bike. The motorcycle manufacturer now seems to have addressed the said complaints, as several dealers have contacted owners of the bike about a recall initiated for fixing the faulty rocker shaft and clutch assembly.

After news about the Himalayan recall came out in the media, Royal Enfield issued an official statement, terming the recall a 'proactive free service update'. Moreover, the company says that the issues are non-critical, and the inspection/replacement drive is being executed to ensure that the customers are well looked after.

Siddhartha Lal, CEO at Eicher Motors, claimed that only a few hundred bikes have been affected by the said issue, and thus the company is addressing the issues on a case by case basis. This is the reason that there has been no official announcement on the exact batch of affected bikes.

In addition to the rocker shaft and clutch assembly, the company will also be addressing complaints related to the stand touching the body, and the saree guard's design.

The Himalayan is powered by an all-new 411 cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine, which churns out 24.5 BHP at 6,500rpm and 32 Nm torque between 4,000 and 4,500rpm. The bike comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
