Renault & Nissan to limit Indian portfolio to two platforms

The Renault Nissan Alliance has decided to limit all their future models in India to just two platforms. This has been done to enhance the economies of scale and ease production complexity.

As per this decision, all future Renault and Nissan cars in the small and mid-size segment in India will be based on the CMF-A and CMF-A+ platforms. The CMF-A currently underpins budget hatchbacks like the Kwid and Redi-GO. The CMF-A+ is a slightly larger and wider version of the CMF-A platform, which has been designed for the compact SUV, compact sedan and premium hatchback segments.

Meanwhile, larger products in the Renault and Nissan range will be based on the M0 platform, which currently underpins the Renault Duster, Lodgy and Nissan Terrano. The upcoming Nissan Kicks and Renault Kaptur will be sharing this M0 platform in India.

However, Nissan's budget-oriented arm - Datsun, will continue to introduce products on the low-cost V minus platform, which underpins the Go hatchback and Go+ MPV. The company is said to be working on the Go Cross crossover, which will be the next product to be launched under the Datsun brand in India.
