Renault Kwid EV may go on sale in India by 2025

The Kwid EV will compete with models like the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3 and the MG Comet.

Renault has confirmed that it plans to launch the Kwid EV in the Indian market by 2025. It could be priced under Rs 10 lakh and will compete with models like the Tata Tiago EV, Citroen eC3 and the MG Comet.

Renault India MD Venkatram Mamillapalle said, "The EV for India is built around the CMF-A platform, and you may see it in 2024 or 2025. We are trying our best to bring it at the earliest, but the exact timeline is not yet firmed up. Renault’s first EV for India is likely to come with a localisation level of 55-60 percent to begin with. However, the company is very keen on sourcing batteries and cells locally to bring down the cost to ensure higher penetration for Renault’s EVs in the future."

The Kwid EV is currently on sale in Europe, where it is available with a 26.8 kWh battery pack offering a range of 295 km (WLTP cycle). The electric motor powering the Kwid EV generates 43 BHP and 125 Nm.

Although the India-spec Kwid EV will be based on the same platform, the battery and motor specifications will differ from the European model.
