Renault builds Kwid 1.0L; ships it abroad

Thank you to BHPian Karthik Chandra for sharing this information with other enthusiasts!

In December 2015, we had reported that Renault was planning to launch new versions of the Kwid hatchback with a 1.0-litre petrol engine and an automated manual transmission (click here to read report). A search on zauba.com reveals that the company has produced and exported many units of the Kwid to various countries around the world for R&D purposes. Many of the exported vehicles are powered by a 1.0-litre engine.

The Kwid competes with the Maruti Suzuki Alto and Hyundai Eon in the entry-level hatchback segment. While the Alto and Eon are available with a choice of 800cc and 1,000cc petrol engines, the Kwid is available only with an 800cc engine at the moment. With the addition of the 1-litre engine, Renault will hope to attract more customers.

The new variants of the Kwid are likely to be displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.
