Queries & guidance on accessories & aftermarket parts for my VW Polo

Need suggestions on loud, melodious, and street-legal horns.

BHPian Briarean recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hi fellow Team-Bhpians,

This is my first “full-fledged” new post on this forum. First of all, I would like to thank the Team-BHP moderators for allowing me to be a part of this amazing community.

I own a Polo Highline Plus AT car, purchased on February 2022. The car is a joy to ride and puts a smile on your face as soon as you start driving it and see an open road.

My Car

Now, I am getting the renowned “modification itch” which is mostly infected to Polo and Thar owners. The modification I did till now, was to install VW seat cover (beige) and 70MAI mirror dash cam. I also wish to mention that I do not want to install any 3rd party kits which can affect the warranty of the car.

Below are some of my upgrade queries, doubts, and issues that I wish to discuss with you all.

1. Headlights: As usual, I like to start with headlights. As everyone knows, Polo headlights are only better than candle lights. This affects you more when you are almost blinded by LED headlights from incoming traffic (Even bikes and Scooters!!). I feel I should have some 2000 Lumen tactical flashlight on top of my windshield and Bang! give them the taste of their own medicine.

But as a law-abiding citizen, I will settle for reasonably good headlights, for the time being.

Now, regarding the upgrade: I am a fan of the Volkswagen Vento Highline Plus / Polo GTI headlights. It’s purely on aesthetics as I am not aware of how much it is functionally good as compared to other after-market Polo headlights. Could anybody let me know if it is possible to install the Vento headlight clusters on Polo?

However, if the modification is complex and costly, then at least, I am planning to go with Philips RacingVision GT200 H7 or Osram Night Breaker Laser H7. Please let me know your suggestions on upgrading the fog lamps and turn-signal lights. Any option for yellow Projector lights for fog lamps?

I also need some insights on Philips Ultinon PRO 9000 H7 / GHC F55 4300K LEDs and GPNE 3000/6000k switchable LEDs (for fog-lamp). The posts by ais were useful in this regard. But the higher costs of LED lights (10k per pair) are a concern. Moreover, making the change to LED seems to have mixed opinions.

2. Horns: For the proud Bangaloreans who always walk with their heads high, this puny car is out of their sight. Moreover, with the feeble horn, I feel my car crying like a Chihuahua, whereas even autos growl like GSD. I wish to have the loudest horn which can give a “mild panic attack” to them, so that either they will obey traffic or wear diapers as a precaution. A horn with enough sound that can even knock their forefathers from hell, back to earth!

Again, as a law-abiding citizen, I will settle for a little civilized horn with a decent loud sound. The problem with VW horns is their pricing. Need suggestions on loud, melodious, and street-legal horns.

3. Engine underbody protection: I am following the posts of sinharishi, vivek.ks & fluidicjoy in this regard. Cutting a hole and doing plastic welding on this part seems a tedious job, but it should be worth the pain.

I have plans to go for a road trip to Kerala in September this year and I wish to have these upgrades done by that time. I request suggestions and guidance from the members in these upgrades.

I also wish to mention that the 8K OPS upgrade done by antardaksh & fluidicjoy and the MaxiDot Cluster upgrade done by fluidicjoy were mind-blowing. You have done amazing, guys! Take a bow!

Those kinds of upgrades are too technical for me and could be planned only after having a good amount of money & an excellent technician, probably after 3-4 years of car ownership.

Now let me come to some of the niggles I am facing:

My car completed its 1st yearly service in April. The service experience with PPS VW Nagawara was pathetic. They took 15 days to complete the service, and, in the meantime, they even banged the front bumper. Fortunately, they replaced it free of cost. The service centre said that they have done regular service and wheel alignments. However, the steering is much more rigid now. The fuel economy seems to be in the single digits. Sometimes I even feel the suspension a little soft now (not sure if this is a nocebo effect!).

  • Has anyone experienced similar kinds of issues, especially after service? What should be my option here? I do not want to go to a VW service centre, as they will not allow us to watch while they perform the service and I want to have an honest opinion about my car’s condition when the service is getting done.
  • Are there any reputed & reliable FNGs that specialize in Polo in Bangalore (preferably in North Bangalore)? I wish to visit them for minor issues/car wash / Wheel alignments etc.
  • Is there any group for Polo owners/enthusiasts in Bangalore or Kerala that can be recommended?

Thank you very much for going through my long speech over here. I hope I will get all the valuable responses from your side.
