After presenting the Regera concept in 2015, Koenigsegg has officially presented the production-spec Regera at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Koenigsegg states that over 3,000 changes have been made to the car since the concept was presented and the car (with oil, water and fuel) weighs 1,590 kg (1,470 kg dry).
The Regera is powered by a combination of a 5.0L, twin-turbo V8 engine that makes 1085 BHP that works with three electric motors (one on the crankshaft and one at each rear wheel) giving the hypercar a combined output of over 1,479 BHP and a road-wrenching torque output of more than 2,000 Nm being transmitted through Koenigsegg's direct drive system.
The Regera is capable of doing the 0-100 km/h run in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 6.6 seconds and 0-300 km/h in 10.9 seconds. Koenigsegg estimates a 0-400 km/h time of 20 seconds and acceleration from 150 to 250 km/h in 3.9 seconds!
The car's 800 volt, 4.5 kWh battery pack is 25 kg lighter than it was in the concept and weighs just 90 kg. Components that other manufacturers traditionally buy in such as the wheels, brake calipers, engine and transmission management systems are all designed, engineered and built in-house by Koenigsegg as is the mechanical drivetrain from the combustion engine to the direct drive unit.
On the feature front, Koenigsegg’s ‘Autoskin’ function allows the driver to open the doors and front and rear hoods remotely using a lightweight hydraulic system. Buttons for operation of ‘Autoskin’ are available on the driver’s remote control key and the centre console inside the car.
The car also gets auto-fold wing mirrors that operate when the doors open. Furthermore, as the Autoskin function allows for the doors to open automatically, the Regera comes fitted with proximity sensors on the doors and wing mirrors to avoid any damage while operating the doors.
The Regera is offered with front, rear and side door cameras for a bird's-eye view of the car while parking or manoeuvring in confined areas. The car also gets Apple CarPlay, Wi-Fi connectivity, inductive phone charging and heated, electrically adjustable seats with the memory function.
Koenigsegg has already received bookings for the Regera even though the price hasn't been officially stated. Deliveries of this hypercar are likely to begin by the end of this year.
