Observations after 7500 km of our new Maruti Suzuki Jimny

The car has been going off the road regularly and no rattles from plastic parts. Mechanically no other surprises too.

BHPian PrideRed recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Completed 7500KM with Jimny. Barring few drives, most of driving has been within town, farm visit and short drives. Appreciate compact dimensions and abuse friendly nature of the car. 5K service was done at Arena Suzuki service station. There are only 2-3 Jimny in town and service center didn't appear confident . Since this was just general checkup, did not bother much. For 10K service plan to get service done at Mangalore. Couple of weeks back noticed reverse sensor was not working, instead was beeping continuously. Dropped it at service center last week, and was told 1 sensor was faulty. Was replaced under warranty.

The car has been going off the road regularly and no rattles from plastic parts. Mechanically no other surprises too. The dueler HT are quite decent off road, but on highway and wider patch with lower profile will certainly make the drive better. During a recent drive, got a consistent 16+ KMPL Fuel efficiency, thanks to speed restrictions on Mysore expressway.

During test drive I found the gearbox was a bit rough and clutch a bit on heavier side. In my car now, the gearbox slots in nicely with good mechanical feel. 1st gear and Reverse are still a bit notchy but far better than initial days. The clutch has short throw and quite light to use now.

Few other observations

  • On recent drive, it rained quite heavily and used headlamp washer, illumination got slightly better.
  • Despite small footprint, its not easy to clean. Door sills accumulate lot of mud and roof is difficult to clean.
  • While the stock speakers are mediocre, head unit is very good. Smooth to operate and wireless carplay works very well.
  • Love the manual 4x4 shifter. Though not as convenient as electronic one in my Hilux/Fortuner, this has good feel. Thar DI I had earlier, did have lever but was pain to use.
  • Nexa blue is pain to maintain. Has a nice sparkle when clean, but gets dirty too quickly. That said Jimny looks nice when dirty with all the muck it carries from farm visit.
  • Engine is smooth and refined, has a nice note at higher RPM like a typical 4 Cylinder Suzuki. The transfer case spoils the party, too noisy and overpowers the nice engine note.
