No SsangYong Tivoli for India: Mahindra

Mahindra & Mahindra has confirmed that it won't be bringing the SsangYong Tivoli to India. This announcement was made by the company’s Executive Director, Pawan Goenka, who was speaking at the 56th Annual ACMA (Automotive Component Manufacturers Association) Convention.

The Tivoli was showcased earlier this year at the 2016 Auto Expo. This had ignited speculations about Mahindra planning to bring the compact SUV to the Indian market. Camouflaged test mules of the Tivoli were even spotted testing on Indian roads. But Mr. Goenka has now suggested that the SsangYong brand wasn’t acquired to bring its models to the domestic market. He also mentioned that there are no SsangYong cars in the pipeline for India.

Meanwhile, we had earlier reported that Mahindra is developing a compact SUV based on the Tivoli's X100 platform. This SUV is expected to be launched in the next 15 months. In a portfolio that is full of compact SUVs, Mahindra is expected to place the Tivoli-based model at a higher price than the NuvoSport. Rumours suggest that the new SUV will mark the debut of a 1.5-litre petrol engine.

Mr. Goenka also suggested that Mahindra might also launch a production version of the XUV Aero concept, which was showcased at the Auto Expo.
