No glitches, issues or errors in my 40-day-old Tata Safari Dark Edition

I met a VW Tiguan owner once who told me that he made a mistake by not considering the Tata Safari facelift.

BHPian Familyguy recently shared this with other enthusiasts:

Hi Guys

A 40-day update on my Safari Dark Edition. I've only been able to drive it for 400 odd km and it's as if the Beast is begging me to take her for a long drive! What's worse, I've almost exclusively driven it during peak office hours in and around Sakinaka, out of all the places (people from Mumbai would know what I'm talking about). I'm sure my car already hates me.

But coming back to the machine, I am happy to report no glitches, issues, or errors (apart from the TPMS failure error a couple of times).

Here are my observations so far:

  1. On the very rare (read one) occasion I've been able to drive her a little spiritedly (on the Bandra Worli Sealink and the new Coastal Road), it put a smile on my face. The engine is very silent (or the NVH very good), smooth and people who've been in the car have been impressed by the plush feel the car exudes. I've had a Tiguan owner tell me he's made a mistake by not considering the Tata Safari!
  2. The Music System is very, very good with great thump, great channel separation and amazing clarity. It can get mighty loud as well! The JBL sound modes are meh and I usually keep it on acoustic or my custom settings.
  3. The ambient lighting feature is a pleasant surprise! I always thought it was a tacky feature but I think Tata has executed it really well. I would also like to think that Dark Edition ambient lighting and infotainment UI is a little better than the normal version. My opinion strictly.
  4. Have hardly used the Sunroof despite having 3 kids. It's just a good-to-have and that's about it.
  5. The suspension is definitely a little on the stiffer side at low speeds, and I haven't been able to experience it at sustained high speeds yet. I really wish the wheels had thicker sidewalls.
  6. My knee does foul with the center console if I drive in my usual position, which is seat height set at max (I'm 5' 11"). So I've had to compromise a bit on the seat height and distance from the console.
  7. For the longest time since I took the delivery, I had the front parking assist on and it drove me crazy with the constant beeps and warnings and just ruined the driving experience. In my ignorance, I somehow thought it can't be switched off and even if it could be, it would get turned back on after every restart. But I was relieved to discover that's not the case and once you switch it off, it stays off and it's such a relief!
  8. The FCW/AEB feature works. It works a bit too well IMHO! I had set it at the least sensitive setting but still, I've had multiple instances of autonomous braking when I, myself am wary of the imminent collision (more like a bumper peck) and braking hard. Since I've been driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic, there have been many instances of the car in front suddenly stopping. What I feel is that it's designed to keep a certain distance from the car in front and hence brakes really hard while I, being an Indian and driving in Mumbai know it doesn't work that way, and braking just enough to stop CMs away from the car in front, so not to give a sudden jolt to the passengers and myself. But the car thinks otherwise and applies the brakes really hard, making a loud noise! So finally I've had to switch it off and have set it to alerts only. Will have to keep in mind to switch it back on whenever I go out of the city. In a city like Mumbai, where I stay, I don't think its needed. Have others had these experiences? In really dense traffic?
  9. All the other features like traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning etc work as they should. I guess once I take her for a proper drive I'll know which features are actually useful and which ones are to be disabled.
  10. Lastly, I think I'm gonna get myself a Dashcam and get it hardwired to ensure parking surveillance works. Hope this doesn't void any warranty.

Just itching to take her for a long spin but I guess both of us will have to wait with work being crazy right now and then I'll be travelling for Diwali. Will share some pics in my next post soon

Cheers.
