Next-gen Supra coming in 2025; Could get Hybrid & EV versions

The next-gen Supra will be powered by a Toyota-developed 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit

According to media reports, Toyota is said to be investing in its next range of sports cars. The Japanese car giant already has plans to revive popular models such as the Celica, MR2 and GR86 coupes. In addition, Toyota is also reportedly working on introducing the next-generation GR Supra.

Initial reports about the next-gen Supra suggested that it would be introduced exclusively as an electric sports car. However, fresh reports state that the next-gen iteration of the iconic sports car will feature a turbo-petrol power unit when it makes its debut in late 2025. Although, a pure-EV version is also slated to follow sometime in 2026.

Earlier rumours also stated that the upcoming Supra would use a revised version of the same BMW 6-cylinder engine. Again, however, the latest report now states that top executives from Toyota have decided that the next-gen Supra will be built in-house and only use Toyota technology.

The fresh reports further mention that the next-gen Supra will be powered by a Toyota-developed 2.0-litre 4-cylinder unit. This engine, though, would feature some form of electrification - either a full hybrid or plug-in hybrid tech. The electrified powertrain is said to produce around 350 to 400 BHP.

The mix of hybrid and EV powertrains on the next-gen Supra fits perfectly with Toyota's multi-pathway philosophy.
