Next-gen Fortuner worth the wait, or should I buy the current model?

I did consider other 7-seater SUVs like the Jeep Meridian & Skoda Kodiaq but still leaning towards the Fortuner.

BHPian Revvman recently shared this with other enthusiasts.

Hello Fellow Bhpians,

I've been following Team-BHP for the past many years now, and while all the information was sufficiently discovered on various forums, I'm hoping to get some direct insight/advice this time around.

I've been contemplating buying a full size 7-seater SUV for a while now and after having seen the situation with Kodiaq and reviews of Jeep Meridian, am leaning towards the mighty Fortuner. However, considering there's a generational update due now and the waiting period is currently 2-3 months, don't want to get stuck with the last-gen model within 6-8 months of purchase. Hence, requesting for some advice/clarity if you think the next generation update is coming anytime soon and it'll be prudent to wait, or will it be better to go with the current one?

Much thanks in advance!

Here's what BHPian asit.kulkarni93 had to say on the matter:

Understanding the basic lifecycle for Toyota's body-on-frame vehicles, I really doubt a new generation is around. This generation was launched in 2016, with a facelift in 2021. Some minor updates might come in a year or 2, but a new-gen version is definitely some time away. Normal a 9-year life cycle with 2 facelifts is what Toyota follows.

Here's what BHPian DicKy had to say on the matter:

  • Wait if: You are okay with a potential Rs 65+ lakh price tag and you are planning to keep it for a really long time. (read 15+ years if the govt allows)
  • Don't if: You just want a Fortuner now and enjoy it. The next-gen Hilux on the TNGA-F platform is a good three years away. The Fortuner will be another year away. So definitely after 2026. The only big change the next-gen Fortuner may have is a V6 diesel option.

Here's what BHPian Kaydee55 had to say on the matter:

Looking at the current scenario, I don't think Toyota will be launching any major generation update for Fortuner at least in India very soon.

Now all future major updates will be more in the direction of Hybrid or Electric ones.

If you intend to keep a new diesel car for 10 years, then this may be your last diesel engine vehicle, we have already lost a gem of an engine i.e VW/Skoda TDi Diesel, I see the same thing happening with others 3-4 years down the line.

And Toyota's full-size Hybrid / Electric SUV will surely be Rs 65 lakh+.

Enjoy the ICE age till it lasts !!
