My 2020 Triumph Street Triple motorcycle: 10000 km update

Very easy to ride. It is a good beginner big bike with all those electronics to save the rider in case of a mishap.

10k kms update:

I have completed 10k kms on my Street Triple. It has been a wonderful experience till now with the bike as well as the dealership.

Positives:

  • An absolute hooligan. The in-line 3 is one smooth sailor and a joy to pull in any gear.
  • Very easy to ride. It is a good beginner big bike with all those electronics to save the rider in case of a mishap.
  • The riding modes are for real. There is clear distinction between them and suitable for various scenarios.
  • Brakes are a delight, which can bring the bike to safe speed/ halt from any speed without any drama.
  • Tyre performance is splendid in dry conditions. However, wet performance is just adequate.
  • Apart from chain maintenance, periodic service and regular fuel/air pressure check, no extra care needed. Fill it, forget it, shut it kind?
  • Fuel economy is decent as per MID. It gives in excess of 20 kmpl if you are often on the wrong side of the speedometer. Riding a bit maturely will give you close 23-24kmpl.
  • The saddle is very comfy for long rides( Rider only). PS- I did a 555 km ride yesterday.
  • Wind blast is not a concern for regular days. However, if it’s windy that day, it’s a completely different ball game.
  • Range and fuel gauge is quite accurate. Pretty accurate I must say.
  • Rear view mirrors are awesome and provide a good view irrespective of what speed one is doing.

Negatives:

  • Usable range for me is around 200-220 kms with DTE still showing 20-30 kms to go. That is approximately 250 kms in a tankful. A range of 300 kms would have been better. Though the tank capacity is 17 L, it hardly takes more than 10-11 L of fuel before you risk it filling to the brim.
  • Despite what people say, these big bikes aren’t comfortable to use in Indian city traffic conditions. One will tire easily trying to keep the bike in leash.
  • I still miss an ambient temperature gauge.
  • Spare parts, if not available, take some time to arrive. It is a month or two at least.
  • Service booking need to be done well in advance. And hoc service visits are entertained only if it’s something urgent. Service space is quite small here at Triumph Pune.

Here are some pictures from recent rides which helped in achieving the milestone. Latest odo reading is 10500 kms.
