Mercedes-Benz imports GLS-Class for homologation

Mercedes-Benz has imported one unit of the GLS-Class SUV into India for homologation.

The GLS-Class is the facelifted version of the GL-Class. It uses the new nomenclature that Mercedes-Benz announced for its models in November 2014. Changes to the front of the car include a new pair of headlights with DRLs, a revised grille and a reworked bumper. At the rear, the vehicle gets a pair of tweaked tail light clusters and a new bumper. The car also comes with a redesigned set of alloy wheels.

On the inside, the GLS-Class gets a free-standing, 8-inch display for the infotainment system, a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a reworked instrument cluster, restyled AC vents and a new touch pad controller.

The variant of the GLS-Class imported is the GLS 350d 4MATIC. It is powered by a 3.0-litre, V6 diesel engine that produces 255 BHP and 620 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle comes with a four-wheel drive system.

Considering the shift towards petrol vehicles in the Indian market, Mercedes-Benz could think of bringing a petrol variant of this SUV here as well.

Mercedes-Benz is expected to launch the GLS-Class in India in 2016. However, the company has not disclosed any particular date for the same.
