Mercedes-Benz builds 50 million cars in over 75 years

The 50-millionth car to roll off the production line was the first Mercedes-Maybach S-Class W223.

Mercedes-Benz has reached a new production milestone. Along with its sister brands, the carmaker has built 50 million cars over the past 75 years.

The 50-millionth car to roll off the production line at Sindelfingen was the first Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. This luxury sedan finished in a dual-tone shade of black and silver is the top-of-the-line variant of the W223 S-Class. It is being produced alongside the regular S-Class and its long wheelbase version. The upcoming all-electric EQS will also be built at this factory.

Mercedes-Benz plans to launch the Maybach S 580 in India later this year. This variant is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. It produces 496 BHP and 700 Nm and is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Maybach S580 is likely to be imported as a completely knocked down (CKD) kit to be assembled locally.
