Maruti YRA spotted testing in India

This is the first time that the YRA, a premium hatchback from Maruti, has been spotted doing test rounds in India.

In our previous articles, the exteriors and interiors of the YRA have been revealed. It is likely to go on sale in 2015 and Maruti plans to position this car above the Swift, in direct competition with the Hyundai Elite i20 and the upcoming Honda Jazz.

According to our previous report, Maruti will continue its product offensive by launching 12 new vehicles to target a whopping 50% of the total market share in the country.

Maruti Suzuki, a company which was once associated with only mass market cars priced below Rs. 8 lakhs, is gradually diversifying its portfolio to introduce premium products to its existing line. Earlier its premium offerings such as the Grand Vitara, Kizashi and even the SX4 (to an extent struggled) to find acceptance in India at a higher price point. However, as of today, some variants of the Ciaz and Ertiga are priced over Rs.10 lakhs and going by their handsome sales figures, the country has accepted these cars well.
