Maruti Suzuki writes off BS4 inventory worth Rs. 125 crore

According to a media report, Maruti Suzuki has written off unsold BS4 inventory worth Rs. 125 crore.

The sale of BS4 vehicles was banned post April 1, 2020. However, the carmaker as well as its dealerships were left with unsold stock. While the Supreme Court did allow the sale of 10% of the BS4 inventory after April 1 following a petition by manufacturers and dealers, the extension of the Covid-19 lockdown impacted sales.

Maruti Suzuki was among the first carmakers to transition to BS6-compliant models. The carmaker also offered attractive discounts in Q4 FY2019. Despite this, the dealers were left with unsold BS4 stock before the new emission norms came into effect.
