Maruti Suzuki S-Cross spotted testing in India

Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to enter the fast growing compact SUV / crossover segment in India. The company has started testing the S-Cross on the country's roads. A test mule of the car has been spotted in Manali, Himachal Pradesh.

Maruti displayed the S-Cross at the 2014 Auto Expo, which was held in February this year. The company is expected to launch it in the country next year. However, the car is likely to undergo certain changes for the Indian market. The company could ditch the Suzuki AllGrip all-wheel drive system which is available on the car in international markets, in favour of a two-wheel drive setup to keep the price of the vehicle down. Features that enhance the car's visual appeal, like high ground clearance, skid plates and plastic cladding could be retained.

The top-end variant of the S-Cross is expected to get LED daytime running lights and 16-inch alloy wheels. The interiors of the car are likely to be equipped with a host of features like climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, multifunction steering wheel and so on.

The S-Cross is likely be powered by a 1.6-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine.
