Maruti Suzuki Ignis launched at Rs. 4.59 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the Ignis at prices starting from Rs. 4.59 lakh for the petrol and Rs. 6.39 lakh for the diesel (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The hatchback will be retailed through the company's NEXA dealership chain. It is available in four variants - Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha, with the entry level Sigma trim being offered only with the petrol option.

Maruti is offering the Ignis with two engine options - a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder petrol and a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel. The 1.2-litre, VVT petrol engine churns out 82 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm of torque @ 4,200 rpm, while the 1.3-litre, DDiS diesel unit develops 74 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque @ 2,000 rpm. Both engines are offered with two transmission options - a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT. Maruti claims that the Ignis petrol delivers a fuel economy figure of 20.89 km/l, while the diesel returns 26.80 km/l.

The Ignis is designed as a hatchback-crossover. It gets an upright front face with a broad, single-frame, chrome-lined grille that stretches across the width of the car. The grille engulfs the two headlight clusters that have LED projectors and DRLs on the top-end variant. The lower bumper houses the number plate in the middle and circular fog lamps. On the side, the car gets beefed up wheel arches, blacked out 15-inch alloy wheels and a thick C-pillar with the Suzuki triad design. The rear gets a retro-themed look with a steeply raked windscreen and two-piece tail-lights, while the number plate housing has been placed in the centre of the tailgate.

On the inside, Ignis comes with a dual tone dashboard layout. Features on offer include a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto & Mirror Link, automatic climate control system with toggle switches, start/stop button and electrically adjustable & foldable ORVMs. The car has a boot space of 265 litres.

In the safety department, the Ignis is equipped with dual airbags, ABS + EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across all variants. Maruti claims that the car has been designed and engineered to meet upcoming side impact, offset crash and pedestrian safety norms.

The Ignis is available in six body colours – Pearl Arctic White, Uptown Red, Silky Silver, Tinsel Blue, Glistening Grey and Urban Blue. Maruti is also offering dual-tone colour options on the Zeta and Alpha variants. Moreover, prospective owners have an option to customize the exteriors and interiors of the car prior to purchase.
