Maruti Super Carry LCV to launch in India by end-2016

Maruti Suzuki will launch the Super Carry by the end of this year. The Super Carry is Maruti Suzuki's first product in the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment.

The Maruti Super Carry is aimed at small businesses and cargo service providers. It is already being exported to South Africa and Tanzania. In the international-spec, the Super Carry has a maximum payload capacity of 750 kg, while its loading bay is 2.18 meters long and 1.49 meters wide. The light-weight Maruti pickup is 3.8 meters long, and 1.56 meters wide.

It has been quite some time since Maruti announced its plans to foray into the LCV market. But the Super Carry LCV, which was internally codenamed Y9T, was delayed in India as the manufacturer wasn't sure about the load factor of this segment. LCVs in India are often over-loaded, and thus the designers had to go back to the drawing board to make a few changes to the Super Carry's load bearing capabilities.

The Maruti Super Carry in India will likely be offered with two engine options: an 800 cc twin-cylinder diesel unit (same as the Celerio), and a 1200 cc CNG engine.

Once launched, the Maruti Suzuki Super Carry will compete with the likes of Tata Ace and Mahindra Maxximo plus.
