Maruti S-Cross facelift launched at Rs. 8.49 lakh

Maruti Suzuki has launched the S-Cross facelift in India with prices starting at Rs. 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new model is available in four variants - Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha.

Maruti has made minor revisions to the exterior of the new S-Cross. At the front, it gets a new chrome grille with vertical slats flanked by LED projector headlights with integrated LED DRLs. The front bumper has been redesigned as well. The dual-tone bumper gets an integrated scuff plate finished in silver and fog lamps. Similarly, tail lights are also equipped with LEDs. It now rides on two-tone machine finished, 16-inch alloy wheels (Alpha trim).

The interior has also received some tweaks. The S-Cross uses soft touch materials for the dashboard with chrome accents and a new seat fabric design (leather upholstery available on Alpha trim). Leather wrapped centre arm rest is only available on the top variant. Maruti has also upgraded the infotainment system on the new model. The piano black finish center console houses the SmartPlay infotainment which is now compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Some of the other features include multi-functional steering wheel, cruise control, parking camera, keyless entry, automatic climate control, reclining rear seat, automatic headlights with auto leveling, auto dimming IRVM and rain-sensing wipers. Safety features like ABS with EBD, airbags, ISOFIX child safety anchorage, seat belt pre-tensioners with force safe limiters are standard. Also, the company claims that the structure of the vehicle has been engineered to be compliant with the latest front, front-offset and side impact crash test norms. Maruti also claims that the vehicle has been designed with pedestrian safety features as well.

The new S-Cross measures 4,300 mm in overall length, 1,785 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. Maximum boot capacity is 810 litres with the rear seats folded and it has a 48 litre fuel tank.

This time, the customers don't get to choose from a set of engines. Instead, Maruti offers just one engine option on the S-Cross. The 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder DDiS 200 diesel engine produces 89 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque @ 1,750 rpm and now gets the mild hybrid functionality built in like the Ertiga and Ciaz. It is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. It gets Smart Hybrid features like idle start/stop, power assist and brake energy regeneration standard across all the variants.

The front suspension comprises of McPherson struts with coil springs while a torsion beam with coil springs make up the rear setup. Brakes come in the form of ventilated discs and solid discs at the front and rear respectively. The lower variants and get 16-inch steel rims instead of alloys and both come wrapped in 215/60 R16 tyres.

The new Maruti S-Cross is available in five colour choices - Nexa Blue, Caffeine Brown, Granite Grey, Premium Silver and Pearl Arctic White.
