Rumour: Maruti working on next-gen S-Cross, codenamed YFG

The next generation S-Cross could compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The Maruti S-Cross was launched in India back in 2015 and received a facelift two years later. Now, the latest rumours suggest that Maruti Suzuki is working on the next generation S-Cross.

The next generation S-Cross is said to be codenamed YFG and is expected to be launched in 2023. It is believed that Maruti will be targeting the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. In order to compete with its Korean rivals, the new S-Cross is expected to come loaded with a lot of features.

Details about the next generation S-Cross are scarce, but given that its competition offers a range of petrol and diesel engines along with a choice of dual-clutch automatic transmissions, the S-Cross to could also get multiple engine and transmission options.

The current generation S-Cross is powered by a BS6-compliant, 1.5-litre petrol engine that comes with a mild-hybrid system. The engine produces 103 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 138 Nm @ 4,400 rpm. The mild-hybrid system uses a lithium-ion dual battery and has idle start-stop, torque assist and brake energy regeneration functions.
