Maruti launches auto traffic violation detection system

Maruti Suzuki has joined hands with the Delhi Police to launch automated Red Light Violation Detection System (RLVDS) and Speed Violation Detection System (SVDS) in the capital.

The initiative was launched by the Mr. Anil Baijal, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi along with Mr. Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner, Delhi Police, Mr. R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki and Mr. Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki.

The RLVDS and SVDS have been installed along a 14 km corridor on the Ring Road between Dhaula Kuan and Sarai Kale Khan. It uses 3D radars and more than 100 high resolution cameras to track vehicles that violate traffic rules. The cameras capture traffic offences like red light violation, speed violation, stop line violation, wrong-side violation and the registration number of the violating vehicle. The system automatically encrypts and transfers data to a centralized server at Delhi Traffic Police headquarters in Todapur. It generates e-challans with photo evidence, which is then sent to the violators via SMS, email or post.

The aim of this initiative is to provide a safe driving environment to motorists, help pedestrians in crossing the road safely and improve compliance with road traffic rules.

Maruti Suzuki has invested Rs. 16 crore in the project. The system will be under the charge of the Delhi Police but will be maintained by Maruti Suzuki and implementation partners DIMTS and Aabmatica for 2 years.
