The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will launch in India early next year, preferably during the January - March 2017 period. This information was confirmed by the company's Executive Director of Marketing and Sales, RS Kalsi. This confirmation puts to rest multiple rumours about the Ignis' launch during the festive season.
Maruti Suzuki had showcased the Ignis at the 2016 Auto Expo as a production ready concept. The automaker was planning to launch it by the end of this year. However, growing demand and rising waiting periods of the Baleno premium hatchback and the Vitara Brezza compact SUV forced the company to focus its manufacturing capacities towards these two in-demand products. This left no room for a new product launch, especially in the high-demand festive season period. As a result, Maruti Suzuki decided to introduce the Ignis at a later date.
The Ignis will essentially be a replacement for the Maruti Ritz. We had earlier reported that the Ritz has already been discontinued. Maruti claims the Ignis to be a hatchback crossover, and will thus place it against the Mahindra KUV 1OO and Toyota Etios Liva Cross.
