Maruti Ertiga & XL6 facelift to come with 6-speed AT

The new 6-speed AT will replace the ageing 4-speed automatic transmission.

Maruti Suzuki's Ertiga and XL6 MPVs are set to get an update later this year. While both cars will receive minor cosmetic updates, the biggest change will be in the transmission department.

According to a media report, both the Ertiga and XL6 will be offered with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The new slushbox will replace the ageing 4-speed automatic.

The 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox is expected to be more responsive and will have a sport mode with paddle shifters. It should also help improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. The downside is that both models could get slightly more expensive.

Powering the Ertiga and XL6 will be the same 1.5-litre petrol mild-hybrid engine. The carmaker will continue to offer a 5-speed manual transmission.
