Maruti and Punjab Govt. to run 32 driving institutes in state

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker in terms of sales, in association with the Government of Punjab will run 32 Driving Training Institutes in the northern state. The institutes will offer driving training using driving simulators, class room instruction and practical training.

Once fully operational, the Driving Training Institutes will be able to train around 10,000 learners in first phase annually. The institutes will be located near automated driving test tracks which will be used by RTOs to conduct driving tests for license seekers.

Maruti will manage the Driving Training Institutes. It will provide driving simulators, training cars (with dual control accessories) and course curriculum. The company will invest around Rs 3 crore in a phased manner under this program.

This driving training initiative is also expected to help in enhancing employability of youth in Punjab.

Maruti Suzuki has trained nearly 2.5 million people in 15 years through its Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR) and Maruti Driving Schools (MDS). Maruti Suzuki currently manages six IDTRs including two in NCR and one each in Dehradun, Vadodara, Rohtak and Bahadurgarh, in partnership with state governments. The company runs 340 MDS across the country in collaboration with its dealers.
