Mahindra launched the TUV300 in India last year. Being a sub-4 m offering, the TUV is placed in the compact SUV segment and currently competes with the likes of the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Ford EcoSport. Now, Mahindra appears to be readying a long wheelbase model of the vehicle. The car was recently spotted testing under camouflage.
The long wheelbase model is expected to borrow most of its design cues from the regular TUV300. The biggest change visible is an elongated wheelbase, which has resulted in a bigger rear third row glass. The longer version reportedly gets a forward-facing third row of seats. With this car, Mahindra appears to be aiming to target the MPV segment to compete against the likes of the Maruti Ertiga.
This is the same segment that currently contains the Xylo MPV from Mahindra. However, the Xylo is clearly showing signs of ageing and is thus experiencing a constantly dropping sales graph. As a result, Mahindra might phase it out in favour of this new SUV.
It is still not clear what name will Mahindra choose for the new product. Previous reports had suggested that Mahindra might call it the TUV500.
