Mahindra launches new Scorpio at Rs. 7.98 lakh

Mahindra has launched the new Scorpio at prices starting from Rs. 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Mumbai).

Mahindra has made a number of changes to the Scorpio - both cosmetic and mechanical. Changes to the exterior include a new front fascia with a restyled grille, dual projector headlamps with static bending technology and LED day-time running lights shaped like eyebrows and bumper. Viewed from the side, the SUV looks similar to the outgoing car. At the rear the Scrorpio gets LED tail lights and a two-tone applique. The car is available in 5 colours – Diamond White, Fiery Black, Mist Silver, Molten Red & Regal Blue. 17-inch alloy wheels are available on higher variants.

The interiors of the Scorpio have been reworked as well. There is a new dashboard with a dual-tone theme and rectangular air-conditioner vents with chrome surrounds, multifunction steering wheel, instrument cluster with an MID, a climate control system, 6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth, CD, DVD, USB and Aux-in compatibility and navigation. The controls for the power windows have been moved from the centre console to the door panels. The upholstery has a blue and grey colour scheme and the driver's seat is height-adjustable. The list of safety features includes ABS, dual airbags collapsible steering column, speed alert, panic brake indicator, auto door lock and engine immobiliser are available as well.

The new Scorpio gets a new body-on-frame chassis, reworked suspension and a wider track. The SUV also gets a brand new 5-speed manual gearbox (5MT320), which Mahindra claims has improved shifting between gears. The engines however, have been retained from the outgoing model. The base variant (S2) gets the 2523 cc, 4-cylinder m2DICR diesel engine that develops peak power of 75 bhp @ 3200 rpm and peak torque of 200 Nm @ 1400-2200 rpm. The other variants (S4 - S10) are powered by the 2179 cc, 4-cylinder, mHawk diesel engine that puts our 120 bhp @ 4000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque @ 1800-2800 rpm. Four-wheel drive is available on the S4 and S10 variants. There is no automatic transmission on offer as yet.
