Lewis Hamilton wins United States GP, Rosberg comes second

Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, has won the United States Grand Prix, while teammate Nico Rosberg managed to secure the second spot. This win has helped Hamilton to reduce Rosberg's championship lead by 7 points. The third place on the podium was occupied by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

This time, Hamilton managed to dart off the line without any drama, and led Rosberg into Turn 1. The German was later overtaken by Ricciardo's Red Bull, thanks to its super-soft tyres. However, Red Bull decided to pit him in the eighth lap, giving Rosberg enough time to get back to the second spot. Ricciardo came in for his final pit stop in lap 25, hoping to regain the second position when Rosberg went into the pits for the last time. However, things didn’t work out for him as per plans.

Ricciardo's teammate, Max Verstappen suffered a gearbox failure in lap 29. This deployed a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) as the Red Bull had to be craned away from the track. Mercedes intelligently pitted both its racers, thus effectively getting a 'free stop' for them. This killed any hopes of the Red Bull challenging the Mercedes duo in the remaining laps.

Rosberg did give a tough fight to Hamilton in the subsequent laps, reducing is gap from 16.6 seconds in lap 32 to just 4.5 seconds at the finish line. However, the British driver managed to keep his shape and thus registered his 50th win. The only two drivers ahead of Hamilton's win statistics are Alain Prost (51) and Michael Schumacher (91).

Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was the fourth to cross the finish line, ahead of McLaren's Fernando Alonso, Toro Rosso's Carlos Sainz and Williams' Felipe Massa. Sergio Perez came eighth, while Jenson Button and Haas' Romain Grosjean.

Rosberg currently leads the World Driver Championship by 26 points, with three races to go.
1. Nico Rosberg - 331
2. Lewis Hamilton - 305
3. Daniel Ricciardo - 227
