Latin NCAP gives next-gen Toyota Fortuner 5 star rating

The next-generation Toyota Fortuner has been given a 5 star rating by Latin NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme).

The Toyota Fortuner, also known as the SW4 or Hilux SW4, is the SUV version of the Hilux pickup truck. It was crash tested in ADAC as an audit test to check if it offers the same protection levels as the Hilux, which was tested in 2015. The Hilux had performed well in both adult and child occupant protection, also obtaining a 5 star rating.

Latin NCAP found a consistency between the protection offered by the SUV and the pick-up version. The SUV even performed better in some biomechanical aspects. As a result the star rating for the Hilux has been applied and extended to the Fortuner / SW4.

The Fortuner comes with safety features such as frontal airbags for the driver and passenger, driver's knee airbag, front seatbelts with pre-tensioners, seatbelt reminder, ABS and mounts for a child seat.

The new Fortuner is likely to be launched in India in 2017.
