KTM to offer engine maps in India

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM is all set to offer factory-approved custom engine maps for its Duke bikes in India.

The company is developing two engine maps for the Duke 200 and 390 in India. While one is a performance map, the other is a map for city usage.  Both will be certified by KTM Austria and will ensure that the warranty of the bikes remains unaffected. Reliability and longevity of the bikes is also expected to remain unchanged.

Feeding the new maps into a bike's ECUs will alter its performance according to the owner's preference. The throttle response, idling and fuel flow are some of the characteristics of the bike that can be changed to give either increased performance or improved fuel-efficiency.

To have these maps installed, customers will have to visit one of KTM's service centres. At a time, one map can be installed on a chargeable basis. To change over to the other map, another trip to the service centre will be required.

KTM is also on its way to introduce a Orange Assist, roadside assistance programme for its customers. The programme will feature round-the-clock service, flatbed truck service for broken down bikes, fuel delivery and medical assistance in the case of an accident.
