KTM plans to create a more versatile model range with the introduction of mid-range V-twin engines. The Austrian auto maker currently has a strong presence with entry level singles & high displacement twin cylinder engines. With this move, KTM will attempt to bridge the gap between the two ends of the spectrum.
KTM CEO Stefan Pierer said the brand would have a new mid class of motorcycles, that would be developed in around three years. The new engines will fall into the 600cc-800cc category. Sources say an 800cc cap will be in place for these engines at the upper end. However, there isn't a stipulated lower limit for the new motors.
The report by motorcyclenews.com suggests that these engines could make their way onto Husqvarna motorcycles as well. Pierer confirmed the introduction of 125cc-1,300 cc road going motorcycles under the Husqvarna brand. The former BMW subsidiary will finally exit the long standing hiatus from road going motorcycle segments.
