Jaguar F-Pace revealed at Frankfurt motor show

Jaguar has finally unveiled the F-Pace. Based on the C-X17, the F-Pace's exterior design is a very similar derivation of the concept. Developed using Jaguar’s lightweight aluminium architecture, the crossover features sleek full LED headlights that have been styled in a similar fashion as the XF's, as has the front grille.

The F-Pace also features forged 22-inch wheels, short front overhangs, slender F-Type like tail lights, a shark fin radio aerial, a roof integrated spoiler and dual tail pipes.

The F-Pace is offered as a 5-seater and the car measures 4,731 mm in length with a 2,874 mm wheelbase. 80% of the body structure has been made from aluminium to make the F-Pace light and the 178 BHP rear-wheel drive diesel F-Pace tips the scales at 1,665 kgs. Additional weight savings come from the composite tailgate and magnesium for parts such as the cross-car beam.

The powertrain range will consist of:

- A 2.0-litre, 178 BHP, diesel manual RWD / AWD and an automatic AWD.

- A 2.0-litre, 238 BHP, petrol automatic RWD.

- A 3.0-litre, 296 BHP, diesel automatic AWD.

- A 3.0-litre petrol automatic AWD that makes either 335 BHP or 375 BHP.

The 375 BHP variant sources its engine from the F-Type and Jaguar claims it can manage the 0-100 km/h run in around 5.1 seconds before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h.

The F-Pace’s torque on-demand all-wheel drive (AWD) features the intelligent driveline dynamics system, which was first developed for the F-Type AWD. The F-Pace also features Land Rover's adaptive surface response (ASR). The crossover uses an F-Type derived double wishbone front suspension and integral link rear suspension.

Safety features include a stereo camera for the autonomous emergency braking system, which features a pedestrian detection function. The F-Pace also gets lane departure warning, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and a driver condition monitor.

Jaguar also offers a laser head-up display that is said to offer better clarity even under direct sunlight. With the F-Pace, the British automaker has also debuted the Jaguar activity key. A waterproof, shockproof wristband with an integrated transponder, that allows the keyfob to be locked inside the vehicle. Locking the vehicle through the activity key will disable any keyfobs left inside.

On the inside, the F-Pace features the InControl Touch Pro system that is based around a 10.2-inch touchscreen with a quad core processor. Up to eight devices can be connected to the vehicle's wifi hotspot at one time. Also offered is a navigation system that can be shown full-screen in 3D on the 12.3-inch HD virtual instrument cluster.

The F-Pace's variant range will consist of the 'Pure', 'Prestige', 'Portfolio', 'R-Sport', 'S' and 'First Edition'. The F-Pace is manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s Solihull Plant in the UK alongside the Jaguar XE sports saloon. Both vehicles are expected to make their way to India in 2016.
