Indian Motorcycles entering India in January 2014

Legendary American bike maker, Indian Motorcycles is set to make its debut in India in January, 2014.

The parent company of Indian, Polaris is already present in the country and well-known for its ATVs. With other iconic manufacturers like Harley-Davidson sitting at the top of the premium bike segment and Triumph making its debut, Polaris could not afford to leave Indian out of the fray for long.

Currently, Indian Motorcycles manufactures three models – Chief Classic, Chief Vintage and Chieftain. All three are powered by a Thunder Stroke 111 engine displacing 1819 cc and producing 161 Nm of Torque, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. However, the company has not disclosed which of these models it plans to launch in India.

Indian Motorcycles is likely to use the CBU route for its India operations.
