According to a media report Hyundai is developing a mass market electric vehicle (EV) for India.
Seon Seob Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India has stated that the company does not expect demand for niche segment EVs to pick up. However, mass-market EVs could gain traction in India.
He added that the R&D team is working on the most suitable body type based on the needs of Indian customers. The report suggests that it is likely to be an SUV.
At present, Hyundai offers the Kona Electric in India. It is priced at Rs. 23.76 lakh (ex-showroom). The car uses a 39.2 kWh battery that powers an electric motor that has an output of 134 BHP and 395 Nm of torque. It has an ARAI certified range of 452 km on a single charge.
