Hyundai India completes 25 years; clocks over 90 lakh sales

Hyundai India is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year. The brand entered the Indian market 25 years ago with the Santro hatchback. Since then, over 90 lakh Hyundai cars have been sold.

Hyundai has invested over US$ 4 billion in India and exports cars to 88 countries. In 2020, total exports crossed the 30 lakh mark. The milestone of 5 lakh units was achieved in 2008. By 2010, another 5 lakh units were exported. Between 2010 and 2014, Hyundai exported 10 lakh cars.

In CY 2020, Hyundai was the only SUV brand in India to sell 1,80,237 units and achieved its highest market share of 17.4%.

Hyundai’s Sriperumbudur factory near Chennai is spread across 540 acres and has an installed capacity of 7.5 lakh units per annum. In December 2020, the factory produced 71,000 units - its highest output in a single month. The carmaker has 1,154 sales outlets and 1,298 service stations in India.
