Hyundai Eon with 1.0-litre engine launched at Rs. 3.83 lakh

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has introduced the Eon hatchback with a 1.0-litre engine in India at a price of Rs. 3,83,130 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). This engine will be available on the Magna+ variant of the Eon only.

The 1.0-litre Kappa petrol engine is a Euro 5-ready, 3-cylinder unit with dual VTVT technology. It puts out 69 PS @ 6200 rpm and 9.6 kgm of torque @ 3500 rpm and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai claims a fuel efficiency figure of 20.3 kpl (ARAI certified) for the car.

The engine uses an aluminium head and block which, the company claims, makes it lighter and helps increase the fuel efficiency of the car. The company claims that the engine uses a low-friction timing chain, which results in low noise, vibration and harshness levels. Additionally, piston cooling jets are used to optimise piston temperature, which helps the engine function efficiently.

The Eon 1.0 will compete with other entry-level 1.0-litre hatchbacks like the Alto K10 and the Datsun GO.
