Hyundai Creta gets 4 star rating in Latin NCAP crash tests

The Hyundai Creta has obtained a 4 star rating in crash test conducted by the Latin New Car Assessment Programme. The car is built by Hyundai in India.

The Creta scored 15.57 points out of a possible 17 in adult occupant safety and 29.87 out of a possible 49 in child occupant safety, which translates to 4 star and 3 stars respectively.

The vehicle was equipped with ABS, dual airbags, seatbelts with pre-tensioners and load limiters for both front seats and a driver's seat belt reminder. The car had a weight of 1,496 kg.

According to the report, in the frontal impact the driver and passenger heads were both well protected. Their chests received adequate protection as well and the passenger's knee area did not show high risk structures. The car's body shell was rated as stable and was capable of withstanding further loading.

Coming to child occupant safety, the report said that the child seat for the 3 year old child was able to prevent excessive forward movement during the impact and the dynamic performance of the 18 months child restraint was good.

However, it was observed that some of the belted child restraint systems (CRS) could not pass installation tests. The vehicle also lost points because of lack of 3-point seatbelts in all seating positions, absence of ISOFIX anchorages and a lack of warning markings for installing a CRS in the front passenger seat, which are Latin NCAP requirements.
