So last week while I was on weekly bathing duties for Panda I made a shocking discovery; RUST!.
It is on the front passenger side door, aligning with the drip holes on the rubber beading. I checked out the other doors and hatch and thankfully all of then were rust free. I don't know how I missed these earlier, maybe I wasn't thorough enough. I guess this is due to rain water and wash water seeping through and the paint had some imperfections/ cracks which has resulted in this.
Some photos of the issue:
As you can see it is just starting out it seems. However, the true extent of damage will be known only when you remove the rubber beading and check. I have to give the car for a half yearly inspection this month and I think I'll get the HASS to do something about this. However, in the back of my mind I think I'll have to replace the entire door a few years down the line. As far as I know rusting, once started, can be slowed down but cannot be stopped.
For the time being I have cleaned the spots with a toothbrush and have applied clear nail polish on then to arrest/ slow down further decay.
P.S.- The missus surely gave the nail polish but then I was also reminded that she had actual nails while our Panda didn't
