Hyundai’s E-GMP EV platform with 499 km range revealed

The E-GMP platform is expected to underpin the Ioniq 5 in 2022.

Hyundai has revealed its new electric vehicle (EV) architecture called the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

The E-GMP platform has been designed to underpin electric vehicles similar in size to the Venue, Tucson and Santa Fe. The carmaker claims that E-GMP based performance-oriented EVs would be capable of accelerating from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.

Hyundai hasn’t disclosed the exact specifications of the batteries, but, has claimed that they would offer a range of 499 km. E-GMP supports 240 volt, 400 volt and 800 volt high-speed charging, which is claimed to charge the battery to 80% in just 18 minutes or add 100 km of range in 5 minutes.

The new E-GMP platform is expected to debut on the Ioniq 5 in 2022. Future EVs under the Genesis and Kia brands will also use the same platform.
