Honda plans to launch a hybrid car in India in 2021

Despite the adverse impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the auto sector, Honda's plans to introduce a hybrid model in India, next year, are still on track.

Gaku Nakanishi, president and chief executive, Honda Cars India, has stated that there has been no change in the company's hybrid vehicle plans. The carmaker has already invested almost 3-4 years in this project and does not intend to postpone it.

Honda did not disclose any details of the new hybrid model. However, it is speculated that it might introduce a hybrid version of either the City or the next generation Jazz.

As reported earlier, the carmaker is still considering the HR-V for India. The SUV could be positioned between the WR-V and CR-V and is one of the candidates to get a hybrid powertrain option.

The Accord was the only hybrid model offered by Honda in India. It was discontinued earlier this year. The car was powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine and two electric motors with a combined output of 212 BHP.
