Honda developing hybrid system for its small cars

According to a media report, Honda is working on a compact hybrid system that could power its small cars. It could also be offered in cars sold in India.

At present, the Accord is Honda's only model that is available with a hybrid powertrain in India. It uses the Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (iMMD) hybrid powertrain, which could be modified for use in smaller vehicles. The first model with a compact iMMD is expected to be the new Honda Fit, which is called the Jazz in India.

Honda aims to electrify two-thirds of its global sales by 2030. The carmaker believes that hybrid technology would be the most effective way to comply with CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) standards.

Mass adoption of hybrids is expected to reduce the cost of development and acquisition by 25%.
