Honda to continue selling the Mobilio in India

Earlier this week, there were reports that Honda was planning to discontinue the Mobilio in India. In an email interaction with Indian Autos Blog, a Honda spokesperson suggested that the company has no such plans. However, the company is planning to halt its production to make way for the BR-V compact SUV that was displayed at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Launched in July 2014, the Mobilio showed a lot of promise initially. However, it could not match the sales figures of its main rival - the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, mainly due to its premium pricing strategy and Brio-derived interiors. Over time, the vehicle's sales have fallen drastically. In January 2016, Honda managed to move just 441 units of the Mobilio and in February, only 226 units were sold.

Honda has no plans to discontinue the model. But, it is planning to temporarily halt production of the vehicle and will try to sell the existing inventory that has built up over the past months.

Honda has been known to stop production of its existing models in order to make way for a new car. In the past, around the time of the launch of the Mobilio, the City's production was temporarily suspended (link to news article). With the Mobilio's production temporarily halted, the company will be able to give some factory space to the BR-V.
