Honda Civic hatchback spied at Tapukara factory

The Honda Civic was withdrawn from the Indian market in 2012. Last year, Honda made it clear that it had no plans to re-launch the car in the near future. However, the European version of the Civic was spotted outside the company’s Tapukara facility. The car was a hatchback, had its steering wheel on the left and wore no camouflage or even temporary number plates. All these signs suggest that it has been imported for R&D purposes only.

In Europe, the Civic is powered by 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre petrol engines putting out 99 BHP and 148 BHP respectively. The old Civic's sales in India had dwindled due to the lack of a diesel engine. Therefore, if the car is to return to the country, it will probably get a 1.6-litre diesel power plant capable of developing 118 BHP. The car is also likely to get higher levels of localisation than before and a sedan body.

More details on the Honda Civic are awaited.
