Honda beats Bajaj to take No. 2 spot in motorcycle sales

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Ltd. (HMSIL) is claiming to have overtaken Bajaj Auto in terms of monthly motorcycle sales for April 2017. As a result, Honda is now the second largest motorcycle manufacturer in India, just behind its erstwhile partner - Hero MotoCorp.

In April 2017, Honda sold 1,83,266 motorcycles, overtaking Bajaj's corresponding sales figure of 1,61,930 units. These figures came after Bajaj recorded a year on year (YoY) sales drop of 19%. Meanwhile, Honda experienced a sales growth of 22% during the same period, thus helping it to take the second spot in the Indian motorcycle market.

Honda is aiming to invest Rs. 1,600 crore this year for increasing its production capacity. The company has also set a target of shipping 6 million units from its plants, out of which 5.7 million two-wheelers will be sold in India, while the remaining will be exported. The manufacturer is also expected to launch 4 new models by the end of this year.
