Ford tops automobile export charts in FY2018

Ford overtook Hyundai to become the largest exporter of automobiles in India in FY2018. However, overall automobile exports from India saw a drop of 1.5% during the same period. 

Ford exported 1,81,148 units registering a growth of 14.3% over the previous fiscal. In comparison, Hyundai's exports dropped by 7.9% to 1,52,942 units compared to 1,67,120 units the previous year, as production of the Euro-spec i20 was moved to Turkey. 

Maruti Suzuki registered a small growth (1.5%) in its exports. The carmaker's exports stood at 1,23,903 units compared to 1,22,039 units in FY2017. Volkswagen, whose domestic sales grew by just 8% in FY2018, exported 90,382 units to overseas markets. VW exports grew by 4.1% during this period.

Chevrolet, which has already seized its sales operations in India, continues to export the Beat hatchback. The brand registered a 17.5% growth in exports, which puts it in 5th place, ahead of Nissan, Toyota, Renault, Mahindra and Fiat. Nissan's exports dipped by 38% as the next-gen Micra is now being manufactured in France, while Mahindra saw a drop of 34.3% in its exports. FCA saw an increase in exports from 165 units to 6,716 as only India manufactures the right-hand drive Compass.
