Ford India sells more than 1 lakh units of EcoSport

Ford India has announced that it has sold more than 1 lakh units of the EcoSport. The company has disclosed that more than 60,000 units of the total number have been sold in India. About 40,000 units have been exported to various markets including South Africa, Taiwan, Australia and certain European countries.

When Ford launched the EcoSport compact SUV in June 2013, it was an instant hit. However, with a limited production capacity, and supplier constraints, the company could not supply enough cars to match the demand. This resulted in long waiting periods. Even today, certain variants command a waiting period of six months or so.

Ford claims that it is working closely with its suppliers to reduce this waiting period. Recently the company had said that it was planning to add a third shift at its Maraimalainagar for production of the EcoSport.
