Ford Classic prices slashed by up to Rs. 1 lakh

In a bid to prop up its flagging sales in India, American auto giant, Ford has cut the price of its mid-sized sedan, the Classic by amounts ranging from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 1.00,000 across all variants. The car will now cost between Rs. 4.99 lakh and Rs. 7.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The car, which was launched as the Fiesta in 2005, was renamed as the Fiesta Classic in 2011 and renamed again as the Classic in 2012. At present, it is available with a choice of two engines, a 1.6-litre petrol and a 1.4-litre diesel.

Ford has not had a very good run in India of late. The new Fiesta never really took off with respect to sales. The Figo hatchback, which saw good response when it was launched, has been declining in popularity as well. The Classic itself has been floundering and managed with sales falling sharply. The only car from the Ford stable that is selling well is the EcoSport.

This price cut will drop the Classic straight into contention with the Maruti Dzire, Honda Amaze and the upcoming Hyundai i10 Grand sedan.
