I have flown AI and AI Express in the past few months. Bangalore - Hyderabad (Express), Jaipur - Mumbai, Pune - Bangalore.
On all ocassions, the flight was punctual. The staff was courteous and helpful. The BLR- HYD AI Express was extremely cramped. Its probably the least legroom I have ever flown. The seat covers were black in colour if it helps anyone ring any bells. So I decided right then not to fly Express again.
For Jaipur - Mumbai, it took 30 minutes for the baggage to come to the belt! Not sure if its Mumbai or the airline. It was a rare occurrence in my domestic flying experience.
For Pune-Bangalore, I was offered an upgrade to Business at the time of web-checkin for a reasonable price. I had excess baggage due to family vacation shopping, so upgraded. The baggage drop took a lot of time. They ran out of paper for babbage tag. The person at the counter seemed less experienced. It seemed he was getting trained. There were more experienced staff guiding him. The whole setup seemed very inefficient in terms of staffing and turnaround time. But the staff was polite and courteous. Similar experience at Jaipur of inexperienced staff at the counter. I had purchased excess baggage and she couldn't figure it out in the system until a senior helped her out. The in-flight experience in the Air India flights was pleasant. And the flights were punctual. So I guess the mileage does vary. In comparison, I have mostly flown Indigo and never had any issues. Overall, I would rate Indigo better on consistency of the experience.
