Earlier this year, Fiat revealed the Aegea sedan in Turkey (click here to read report). It was believed it would replace the ageing Linea in India. However, media reports suggest that the company could also consider the Grand Siena, which is sold in Brazil, in its place.
The Aegea has been developed for left-hand drive markets only and the production version of the car has not yet been launched.
The Grand Siena is a heavily reworked version of the Linea. Like the Aegea, the Grand Siena is also developed for left-hand drive markets only.
To develop a right-hand drive version, the company will need to make a large investment in tooling for a suitable dashboard and other fittings. If India is the only right-hand drive market the car is going to be sold in, this investment will be difficult to justify. The low volumes that Fiat cars sell in, does not help matters either.
The Linea is expected to be replaced in late 2016.
