Ferrari retains Kimi Raikkonen for 2016 Formula One season

Scuderia Ferrari has announced that it will retain Kimi Raikkonen's services for the 2016 Formula One season. The Italian team's decision to extend Raikkonen's contract for another year means that its driver line-up will remain unchanged in 2016.

Raikkonen won his only World Drivers' Championship title with Ferrari in 2007. He left the team and the sport after the 2010 season, after Ferrari decided to replace him with Fernando Alonso.

Raikkonen returned to Formula 1 in 2012 with the Lotus F1 team. In 2014, he was once again at the wheel of a Ferrari. Alonso, his team mate, overshadowed him, scoring 161 points to Raikkonen's 55. The 2015 season has seen Raikkonen being dominated by Sebastian Vettel, his team mate. After the Belgian Grand Prix, which was held on August 23, Vettel has scored 160 points, while Raikkonen's tally stands at 82. 

It was being speculated that Williams driver, Valtteri Bottas, would replace Raikkonen at Ferrari next year. Now, it appears that Bottas could remain at his current team for another year at least.
